"Drawing is the honesty of the art. There is no possibility of cheating. It is either good or bad." - Salvador Dali
Salvador Dali's quote encapsulates the essence of drawing as an art form that demands raw honesty and genuine expression. With each stroke of the pencil, the artist reveals a piece of their soul, laying bare their thoughts and emotions for the world to see. Unlike other forms of art, drawing leaves no room for deception or trickery. It is a pure form of self-expression, where the artist's skill and creativity are laid bare for all to see. Dali's words inspire us to approach drawing with the utmost sincerity, to embrace our imperfections and shortcomings, and to create with unbridled passion and honesty. It reminds us that drawing is not just a skill to be learned but a journey of self-discovery and artistic growth, where every stroke is a testament to our unique creative vision.
Working with graphite, carbon, and charcoal, while integrating with my personal experiences in life, I strive at creating art that triggers a degree of emotional connection between my viewers and my artwork. Spending countless hours working on a single piece, simply to stimulate deep and strong emotions in order to connect more intimately with my viewers.
My artworks are done in a hyper-realistic style, which is characterized by translating photographs into drawing with extreme attention to detail. For me this style is not an end in itself but only a means to an end. Allowing my attention deficit disorder mind to hyper-focus on my art, I find my own persona emerging within the work. The focal points in each of my drawings are always my own individual interpretation and a reflection of my thoughts and state of mind.
The composition of each of my drawings start within the first steps of each work. Before I take photos for a new project I already have a precise idea of how each future work should look as a drawing. I spend just as many hours perfecting the composition before the hard part ever starts. Once the photos are taken or rendered, they are then used as templates to bring my true visions to life.
