"Hands That Raised Me" is an homage to the countless Black jazz musicians who have used their artistry to create melodies that transcend boundaries and touch the hearts of people around the world. It celebrates their resilience, creativity, and the cultural legacy they have bestowed upon future generations.
Through the delicate manipulation of charcoal, graphite, and carbon, I meticulously render the musician's features, capturing the nuances of their expressions and the intensity of their performance. The skilled hands, with fingers gracefully gliding across the microphone, become symbolic of the artist's deep connection to their craft and the artistic lineage passed down through generations.
"Hands That Raised Me" invites viewers to connect with the universal language of music, to embrace their own heritage, and to celebrate the indelible mark left by the hands that have shaped our cultural landscape.
